Sustainable.co.za was founded in 2002, and is an online eco-store that supplies a wide range of eco-friendly products, such as wind power products, green products and solar products, including solar cookers.

Solar cookers use the power of the sun to generate enough heat to cook food, and is mostly used in rural areas with no electricity. There are over 65 different types and variations of solar cookers, but they can roughly be divided into 5 distinct types.

Sustainable.co.za solar cookers:

  • Box solar cookers – warm food and drinks, purify water and pasteurise milk.
  • Panel solar cookers – get hot enough to purify water and cook rice.
  • Solar kettles -  heating water, can also serve as solar cookers, delivering dry heat of up to 220°C.
  • Parabolic solar cookers – able to reach high temperatures but unlike other solar cookers they require supervision.
  • Hybrid cookers – use solar energy and electric energy to generate heat.
